About ‘Ask the artist’

Ask the artist is a site that grew from my Patreon blog (that I no longer use) where I began interviewing interesting artists who live in my local area of West Yorkshire, UK.

The interviews are conducted via email between myself (Helen Dryden) and the artists.

It began as a way for me to learn more about the artists I met and to share that information with everyone, to show off the creators working in this area of the world.

The interviews took a break for 2 years while I completed my MA Curation Practices at Leeds Arts University from 2018-2020, (as I was too busy).  Now the interviews continue, with artists from further afield in the UK, focusing on artists exhibiting at Compact Contemporary – the new petite gallery for contemporary art, which I curate.

If you would like to support my work with emerging artists then you can buy me a virtual metaphorical cup of tea at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/HelenDryden

Compact Contemporary provides an exhibition space free of charge to emerging contemporary artists and was devised as an alternative space when due to Covid-19 restrictions, galleries were closed. The gallery’s first exhibition was in March 2021 with ‘Balancing Act’ by Melissa Procter.
